Tsering Woeser
Award-winning Tibetan writer and poet Tsering Woeser was born in 1966 in Lhasa, Tibet. She lives in Beijing with her Chinese husband. Woeser’s troubles began with her second book Xizang Biji (Notes on Tibet), a collection of short stories and prose published in 2003. The book was a best-seller in China, but was banned for revealing opinions “harmful to the unification and solidarity of our nation.” In 2008 Woeser was placed under house arrest, her only contact with the outside world through her blog but the authorities regularly shut her down. Woeser has become widely known as one of the most respected writers and commentators on Tibet.
